## Subscribing contacts

All Pro sites automatically get a **Subscribe for updates** button on their site. Fans can use this to provide their email address and optional location to subscribe to your newsletter. From there, you can [send them campaigns](/docs/campaigns) through Supertape, or [export them](/docs/contacts#exporting-contacts) to other services. Your followers data is yours to keep.

To comply with international email laws, and prevent spam and invalid email addresses, anyone subscribing from your site will need to [double opt-in](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opt-in_email#Confirmed_opt-in_\(COI\)/double_opt-in_\(DOI\)) before they're added to your contacts. If you've [setup your newsletter](/docs/newsletter#setting-up-your-newsletter), the double opt-in email will be sent from your **Sending email**. If you haven't, it will be sent from a **noreply** Supertape address.

## Importing contacts

We've made it easy for you to import contacts that you've exported from services like [Mailchimp](https://mailchimp.com/help/view-export-contacts/), [Squarespace](https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/360046485652-The-Contacts-panel#toc-export-contacts), [Shopify](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/customers/import-export-customers), [Big Cartel](https://www.bigcartel.com/resources/help/article/download-order-data), [Gumroad](https://gumroad.com/help/article/170-followers.html#Exporting-FmWIn), and more.

However, only import contacts who have:

* Given you permission to email them
* Subscribed or been contacted in the last few months
* Previously had a clear way to unsubscribe

Ignoring these rules can damage your [email reputation](/docs/newsletter#building-your-email-reputation) and result in failing to meet our [email sending requirements](/docs/newsletter#email-sending-requirements). It's bad for you, us, and them. Don't do it.

If your list meets this criteria, let's get it imported:

1. Visit **Contacts** and select **Import**.
2. Review and agree to the rules for importing.
3. Select if you'd like to import multiple contacts at once or add a single contact.
4. For multiple, select your [CSV file](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values), map the columns to the correct fields, and **Import**.
5. For a single contact, enter their email address, location, and select **Save**.

From there you'll see the progress of your import and a recap of how many contacts were successfully or unsuccessfully imported.

<Info>
  Contact imports can fail for a number of reasons, including invalid email
  addresses, duplicate contacts, previously unsubscribed contacts, or issues
  with the CSV file format.

## Tracking contacts

If you've enabled [campaign tracking](/docs/newsletter#setting-up-your-newsletter), then your contacts will be scored based on their activity:

<CardGroup>
  <Card title="High (66-100)" icon="circle-small" iconType="solid" color="#4ade80">
    Either a new subscriber since your last campaign, or one that consistently opens and clicks your campaigns.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Medium (33-65)" icon="circle-small" iconType="solid" color="#facc15">
    Someone who has opened or clicked campaigns in the past, but not consistently. Keep an eye on them.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Low (0-33)" icon="circle-small" iconType="solid" color="#f87171">
    Someone who rarely, if ever, opens or clicks your campaigns. Consider **<u>[deleting them](#deleting-contacts)</u>** to protect your **<u>[email reputation](/docs/newsletter#building-your-email-reputation)</u>**.
  </Card>

  <Card title="None (n/a)" icon="circle-small" iconType="solid" color="#a3a3a3">
    Either a newly imported contact since your last campaign, or the default score if you have campaign tracking disabled.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

It's good hygiene to clean up your contacts list from time to time. Protect your [email reputation](/docs/newsletter#building-your-email-reputation), and possibly save some money on your [plan](https://www.supertape.com/pricing), by deleting contacts that haven't opened or clicked your campaigns in a while. Here's how:

1. Visit **Contacts** and apply any **Filters** you'd like.
2. Select the **three dots** next to the **Contacts** count and select **Delete**.
3. Confirm the deletion and your contacts will be removed from your list.

<Info>
  You can delete a single contact by selecting the **three dots** next to them
  and hitting **Delete**.
