Types of domains

You can change your default domain in your Settings.

Connecting a custom domain

This process differs slightly for each domain provider, and they may use different terms for things than what we use below, but the general process is the same. This process can sometimes be a hassle, so please let us know if you need any help.

1

Add the domain to Supertape

  1. Visit Settings and scroll down to Domains.
  2. Select New, enter your domain name (ex: yourband.com), and hit Save.
  3. Your domain should now appear in the list as Unverified.
2

Remove any old DNS records

If this is a new domain you’ve never used before, skip this step. Otherwise, log into your domain provider and remove any DNS records you setup for a previous website. In particular, look for these:

TypeHostValue
A@any IP address
AAAA@any IP address
CNAMEwwwany domain name
Here’s how to do it on GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, Porkbun, and Name.com.
3

Add Supertape's DNS records

Still on your domain provider’s website, add the following DNS records:

TypeHostValue
A@75.2.96.173
A@99.83.186.151
CNAMEwwwcname.supertape.site
Here’s how to do it on GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, Porkbun, and Name.com. If using Cloudflare, be sure to disable proxying (grey cloud).

Now… we wait. It usually only takes a few minutes, but it can sometimes take up to 48 hours for DNS changes to kick in. Once our system is able to verify your DNS is setup properly, we’ll automatically activate your domain and email you to let you know.

If you’ve followed these steps and your domain isn’t verified after 48 hours, let us know.

Verifying a domain

When you first connect your domain, we’ll automatically attempt to verify the DNS records are setup properly throughout the day, and once a day after that. If you’d like to manually verify your domain, here’s how:

  1. Visit Settings and scroll to the Domains area.
  2. Select the three dots next to your domain and then Verify.
  3. Your domain’s verification status will be updated.

Changing your primary domain

Your primary domain is the one shown in the browser address bar. All other domains, and your default domain, redirect to your primary.

  1. Visit Settings and scroll to the Domains area.
  2. Select the three dots next to your domain and then Make primary.
  3. Your domain is now your primary, and all others will now redirect to it.

When you connect your first domain, it will automatically become your primary. Only verified domains can be your primary domain.

Deleting a domain

  1. Visit Settings and scroll to the Domains area.
  2. Select the three dots next to your domain and then Delete.
  3. Your domain is now deleted and will no longer redirect to your primary.
Your primary domain can only be deleted if it’s your last domain.
